How to refer a patient for treatment

We look forward to seeing your patients.  Our current waiting time for a first PGD appointment is about 4-6 weeks following receipt of a referral letter.  Our acceptance criteria includes the requirement that all couples have been seen by their local genetics service.

When referring your patients, please include:

• the names and date of births of both partners
• relevant molecular or cytogenic reports (we need these before we can process appointments)
• a brief reproductive history
• relevant clinical details if one of the partners is affected by a genetic condition or any other medical condition

If referrals are sent elsewhere or relevant information is not included there may be a delay in offering your patient an appointment.

Please remember that we usually need DNA samples to be available from the couple and other family members, either an affected child or the parents of genetic carriers for linkage analysis.  If you think that such samples may not be available, please call to discuss before referring the couple.
